HumI'dLikeToDestoryTheEarthmer

Uhoh. Saw the new Hummer commercial. Allow me a dramatic reenactment if you have not yet seen it....

Two men, seemingly equal in manliness, at the checkout. Man # 1 has...please do not gasp too loudly if you are located in a public place... Tofu. Lots of Tofu. And leafy greens. Awkward? Why of course, when you consider Man # 2, who Man # 1 sheepishly looks back at.

Man # 2: Lots of meat on that conveyor belt (and no, that's not a euphemism). We're talking ribs, loin, the whole shebang. Geeze, Man # 2 sure is vastly appealing eye candy, now that Man # 1 has outwardly demonstrated his castrated psyche. I'm pretty sure, as we've been culturally conditioned to assume, that the woman at home has ordered this new diet of Tofu and emasculation. OH THE HORROR...until, redemption.

Man # 1 immediately, with perishable groceries in tow, to the HUMMER (cue heart-wrenching music) dealership to point out and demand the biggest, most socially irresponsible vehicle he can find. Load up tofu in spacious cargo storage area and drive away.

Commerical slogan? "Restore the Balance" ...fade to Man # 1 munching on that carrot stick (beta carotene...good for the eyes).

Well, I'm thoroughly disgusted at what Hummer and the ingenious (!) marketing firm behind the campaign came up with. Please, reinforce stereotypes of gender, and remind us all, that to define yourself in socially acceptable ways, a Hummer is the way to go. Why, they even have a vast array of Hummer versions to choose from. H2, H3, H(there's too much)CO2! Remember: Don't recycle or reduce consumption of Styrofoam, and never ever catch yourself eating soybeans.

Theres another commercial for them with woman in it like that. The mom on the playground goes to defend her kid who just got pushed outta line on the playground and the other kids mom (who pushed the girl) walks up and just looks at the mom like "ha, my kid just pushed ur's outta the way" so then the mom goes to the dealer and buys a hummer for herself.

Ah! No, I didn't see that one yet. That's just offensive. Remember when those David & Goliath goods were "banned" and criticized for the slogan "Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them?" Well this is the exact same thing, only the adult version with Hummers. Ugh. Oh the injutice of the world.

Please note that at first the man one said something like, "Restore your manhood/manliness/mansomething" then people complained and Hummer put up the ridiculous "balance" line. I'm afraid it alludes to something environmentally related. I think you could have guessed my reaction to this particular campaign. Have you also noticed how many car commercials there are now? It's all cars and medicines.

Agreed. Lipitor and Hummer should just get a room, already.
