the resurgence of apocalypse

I see a pattern: Once again, the media (following all kinds of eternal trends) is back on the apocalypse bandwagon. Cloverfield, I Am Legend, The Road, insurance companies, Stephen Baldwin.

It started last year. I opened a warranty packet-- a whole page on, I don't know, foot powder-- and stumbled upon the single most baffling caveat: "not liable for Acts of God". Yes, I've posted about this before...

Then, today, I read (cover to cover!), because I'm that susceptible shock and awe, my insurance company's newsletter. Buried deep inside column upon column on the horrors of not dog-earring your car owners manual ||TAKE THE TEST?||(lest you get in the pickle of changing your windshield wipers and suddenly being unable to access your manual and readily find your information) and the theft-percentile of your Dodge Charger (let the record reflect: if you own a Dodge Charger, you brought the apocalypse hellfire on yourself) the wise words of their very own "Assistant Vice President of Catastophe" (I kid you not) spoke. AVPoC reminds you of how flammable impacted dryer lint can be. 15,500 fires a year are caused by dryer lint fire.

Groan. If I didn't already worry constantly about every possible household catastrophe, I guess someone will always tell me...

and then sell me insurance for it.

Holy Candy!
